There is something special about having a teenage daughter…They are the most amazing people on earth.  So full of potential.

And yet…they can be incredibly aggravating!

So many life choices are made that affect the rest of their lives…and that’s probably what drives parents crazy!  Or maybe that’s just me!

Sometimes it is hard to have a sincere conversation with my teenage daughter…but if I could…here is what I would say!

To My Wonderful Teenage Daughter!

  1.  I love you…even when you do stupid things!  Everyone makes mistakes.
  2. I am a person too.  I would like to hear a “Thank You” once in a while!
  3. Let me know what’s going on in your life.  I know you are trying to be your own person and sometimes that means you don’t want to share details with me.  I still enjoy hearing what is bothering you, how you did on your test, or what you loved about that movie you saw over the weekend.
  4. Nobody will remember in 20 years what you did…they will remember how you made them feel!
  5. Don’t lie to me…I want to trust you.  Be honest…even when it’s hard.
  6. It is exciting to watch you become your own person.  I believe in you!  Sometimes it’s hard for me to stand back and not say anything when I see you make mistakes….but I know that is how you will learn!
  7. I want you to be happy.  I want you to understand there is a difference between fun and happiness.
  8. Tell me where you are going, when you will be home, and who will be there.  I am not being obnoxious…I want you to be safe.
  9. Have a life away from your phone.  I know it is an easy way to communicate with your friends.  Remember to look up once in a while and enjoy a sunset, play a board game, or read a book.
  10. Don’t be afraid to fail.  Try new things that will help you develop talents or skills.  You may find you don’t like them…but what if you do and find a great new hobby?
