Have you ever felt a little lost in your mothering?  Like you know you can do better but you don’t know where to begin?

It seems like my kids are always growing into a new stage-I guess with 6 of them that is to be expected.  There is always something new to figure out…since of course, every child is different!  Just because I’ve done age 8 once doesn’t mean it’s going to be the same with the next one!

Recently, I have done some personality quizzes with my children.  I was a little surprised at how much they helped me understand them better…and what may be even more important …it helped my older kiddos understand themselves and each other better!

Check Out These “Parenting Manuals”

The Five Love Languages of Teenagers, The Five Love Languages of Children, and The Color Code gave me some great insights into my children’s strengths and weaknesses and also made me think about how I can connect with them better.  My husband doesn’t get very excited about these kind of things but I was able to talk to him about some of these ideas as well…I love books that help me understand and love my family better!

Another resource that I have enjoyed recently is Becoming a Deliberate Mom Workbook.  This workbook made me slow down and look at the things that might be preventing me from creating strong relationships with my children.  Remember, nothing will change unless you do so be ready to spend some time working through this 7 unit book to become the mother you want to be!

And one of my favorite resources is The Mom Conference.  This has become a yearly event for me…and the best thing is I don’t have to leave my home and family to go anywhere.  I can listen at home (when I’m done with my mom things…or while I’m doing my mom things!)  I find the information presented so uplifting and motivational…it really does help me be a better mom.  I think of this conference like continuing education for me…my husband has to go to conferences to keep current on topics and skills needed for his job.  I think Moms sometimes forget to invest in themselves!
